Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the phenomenon of 'glass ceiling' in the Indian Administrative Service, particularly at the senior and/or top level. Formal facilitators include the ability and performance of individual acquisition of business skills, richness of work experience, significant events (achievements and failures). These provide momentum in the career hierarchy and accelerate the upward journey. Several factors were explored that facilitated or inhibited career growth and development of famocrats.
