Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the extent to which renewable energy can contribute to achieving sustainable development, by clarifying the concepts of renewable energy and sustainable development. It also highlights the role of renewable energy in achieving sustainable development, with a focus on the UAE’s experience in the renewable energy sector. The study uses a descriptive-analytical approach to the literature review and employs a case study method to present the UAE’s experience and its applicability in this area. The study concludes with a number of findings and recommendations, the most important of which is that the UAE has succeeded in building a diversified economy that is not dependent on oil, thanks to the promotion of investment in renewable energy and foreign direct investment, as well as providing opportunities for the private sector.
