Sustainability Tourism Practice through Constructed Environment: An empirical Study base on Northeast India
Abstract
This study proposes a pragmatic approach to sustainable tourism by applying Constructed Environment principles in Northeast India. CE refers to the human-made environment, emphasizing the alignment of tourist psychology and expectations with ecological sustainability. The framework relies on the intuitive understanding and competence of stakeholders in interpreting tourist psychology, drawing upon Maslow's hierarchy of needs. While tourism inflows offer economic benefits, they also lead to ecological impacts and resource exploitation. The study has two primary objectives: firstly, to outline constructed environment concepts and analyze its mechanism for enhancing sustainable tourism practices in northeast India. Secondly, to examine northeast India tourist destinations as the Sustainable tourism destinations. The study considers the awareness and opinions from various respondents regarding Sustainable tourism practice in the region, including Economic, environmental, and social benefits. A mixed-method approach (Ordinary Least Squares) was employed, combining primary data collected through interviews with secondary data from academic articles, books, and online sources. One key takeaway is the necessity of educating stakeholders and tourists about sustainable tourism practices to foster responsibility, competence, and awareness. This, in turn, will promote economic viability through sustainable tourism policy development and the integration of technology to support sustainable tourism in the region via CE.
